Book Review – Pandora's Clock – John J Nance

Book

A transatlantic flight from Germany is diverted to London when a passenger becomes suddenly ill, but when they try to land they are refused entry. The reason, a deadly virus that may be on board the plane. A virus so deadly that they will all be dead within a few days. Now the pilot has to decide what to do with a plane that no one wants.

Pandora’s Clock builds slowly, taking the time to flesh out the main characters before turning up the heat and tension. The plot is a great one, and well thought out as the plane is rejected from country after country.

As with other John J Nance books, the reader get drawn in as the plots twists keep coming. The story never leaves the realm of possibility and so everything is believable.

Another great book by John J Nance. Very satisfying to read.

Sci Fi September # 13 – Twelve Monkeys

sci-fi-september.jpg

Earth has been savaged by a plague and the survivors now living underground, try to find out what happened by sending convicts to the surface to gather data. Scientists then send one of the convicts back in time to try and discover exactly what happened only he ends up in a mental institution. Then it starts getting crazy.

Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt star in this time traveling mind messing tale. Brad Pitt is excellent as a certifiable nutcase, totally convincing. Bruce Willis is his usual self, bald, tough, misunderstood.

Its difficult to review this movie because the way the plot twists and turns. Its a true Terry Gilliam film with the visuals and sets. Each twist is unexpected and yet obvious once you see it.

The one complaint I would have is the use of Louis Armstrong‘s ‘Its a wonderful world’ which seems to appear in every where we are supposed to care about the world around us. Its been over used to the point of being hokey.

The ending is a great one, and it ties up the whole movie very well. Twelve Monkeys is one of those movies you should watch if you like The Matrix or movies similar.
