Book Review – Target 5 – Colin Forbes

Book

A defecting Russian oceanographer heads over the Arctic ice to the American base named Target 5. His defection starts a chase across the ice as Russian security try to stop a small three man team from meeting up with the Russian and spiriting him away to safety.

The conditions on the ice are more dramatic in Target 5 than other similar books, with the main characters pretty much shadowed by the main character, Keith Beaumont who comes over more like a superman than just an Arctic adventurer. The story is definitely an adventure rather than a thriller or survival story. Where as most of the ‘ice’ books recently read
stay mainly on ice, Target 5 moves the action from the ice to the water. Ice breakers and ice bergs take center stage as the story changes gear and pace.

A good, enjoyable novel.
