Book Review – Hammerheads – Dale Brown

Book

When the Coast Guard along with the Customs Service get attacked by drug smugglers the decision is made to create a brand new Border Security Force equipped with Bell Boeing V22, a tilt rotor plane that looks like a hammerhead shark.

A typical Dale Brown outing with lots of technical details concerning the aircraft or ships involved. While the plot does last over year, it sometimes feels as if the story jump forward unexpectedly. The characters are OK but don’t exactly grab your attention or interest other than as part of a story. It must be said that its a very good idea and the way they go about it is well thought out but at the end of the day, it still feels like it could have been more.

An enjoyable book but it could definitely have been better.

Torchwood Episode 3

View From Behind The Couch

Whilst chasing a suspect, Gwen touches an artifact that shows her the ghost
of a little boy wandering a train station. Owen then uses the object and
witnesses a murder that was committed 30 years previously.

<SPOILERS>

A very interesting concept, a way to view the past, gives this episode an
original plot. It is more of an Owen Harper showcase and you see that
there is more to the cocky doctor than just his attitude. He actually
becomes upset and emotional and decides to track down the murderer. Gareth
Thomas, Rog from the BBC series, Blakes 7, makes a guest appearance and
is very good and believable.

The episode asks how dangerous is it to be able to see not only the past
but the future but it doesn’t feel cheesy in the way it does it. After the
last episode with the sex monster alien, the only alien ‘stuff’ here is
the object that allows the holder to view a different time. Its a good old
murder mystery  with a twist.
