Book Review – The Wee Free Men – Terry Pratchett

Book

Down on the farm, Tiffany Aching’s brother is kidnapped and she has to get him back. Luckily on her side are a bunch of drunken, thieving troublemakers that are only a couple of inches tall!

The Wee Free Men is a book aimed at a slightly younger audience than usual with the Discworld stories. This has no impact at all on the story, nor on the style used. A simple tale of an evil queen who steals away little children and a big sister who won’t back down or give up. Throw into the mix the Nac Mac Feegle’s and you have a classic Pratchett story.

Nearly every single character or species that Mr Pratchett creates is memorable, from the Librarian, to Rincewind, to Nobby Nobbs to the Nac Mac Feegle. They are crafted and formed to not only turn cliches on their heads but into living breathing characters that you want to read more of.

The Wee Free Men is as funny as any of the Discworld books, and being aimed at a younger audience didn’t spoil anything. This is one of the best Discworld books I have read recently!
