Criminal Christmas # 5 – The Transporter
A professional driver is hired to transport items from place A to place B. He follows his own set of rules, but when he breaks them, by opening a package he is transporting he nearly blown up, and from there, it gets worse.
In his first starring role, Jason Statham plays Frank Martin, a retired special forces soldier who now makes his living driving his series 7 BMW for hire, no questions. The Luc Besson produced and written movie opens with an exciting although sometimes silly car chase that sets the tone for the rest of the movie.
Set in the south of France, the movie doesn’t look like anything other than a French movie. While it has its flaws, Transporter does feature an amazing fist fight in a bus depot and a great supporting role by Francois Berleand as Inspector Tarconi.
Statham, already with several notable movies under his belt, gives notice that he is ready for the big time. Physically able to perform a lot of his own stunts, and with a martial arts background, he is perfect for this kind of action movie.
The movie looks good and if you don’t mind a couple of ‘dumb’ things, its a brilliant action movie.
