Movie Review – The Magic Roundabout

The Magic Roundabout

Based on the English adaptation of a French kids show, The Magic Roundabout was a TV show where various creatures had adventures. The main cast of the TV show included:

Brian, a snail
Ermintrude, an singing cow
Dylan, a stoner rabbit
Dougal, a hairy self important dog
Florence, a girl
and Zebadie, a springy thing.

The movie remains true to the original characters while adding a villan (Zeebad) and a great plot. Lots of one liners that little kids may not quite get but adults will. There are also references to popular culture, songs, movies and much more which all combine to make the movie interesting for everyone. A great soundtrack gives the movie the perfect touch. Definatly a movie I will watch again and again.

Book Review – Deep Black – Andy Mcnab

From the Publishers

Synopsis
Nick Stone’s future has never looked as bleak. The only person he’s ever loved is dead. The only people who might give him a reason not to join her have turned their backs. Until a chance encounter with a man he saved ten years ago appears to throw him a lifeline…But on the bullet- and bomb-scarred streets of Baghdad, second chances are in short supply. A simple quest becomes a journey to the heart of a chilling conspiracy; too late, he realizes that he is being used as bait – to lure into the open a man he believes can offer some salvation, but whom the darker forces of the West will stop at nothing to destroy…

Andy Mcnab doesn’t pull any punchs, far from it, he writes ultra-realistic thrillers that can be shocking and yet, not in a ‘shock for shock value’ type of way. Very hard books to stop reading once you start. If feels like real life and nothing is better than that!

Book Review – Black Wind – Clive Cussler & Dirk Cussler

From the Publisher
In the waning days of World War II, the Japanese tried a last desperate measure–a different kind of kamikaze mission, this one carried out by two submarines bound for the West Coast of the United States, their cargo a revolutionary new strain of biological virus. Neither sub made it to the designated target. But that does not mean they were lost. Someone knows about the subs and what they bore, knows too where they might be, and has an extraordinary plan in store for the prize inside–a scheme that could reshape the world as we know it. All that stands in the way are three people: a marine biologist named Summer, a marine engineer named Dirk, and their father, Dirk Pitt, the new head of NUMA. Pitt has faced devastating enemies before, has even teamed up with his children to track them down. But never has he looked upon the face of pure evil…until now.

The second book featuring the father and son teams. One writing them, the other starring in them. Its a very strange idea and there are moments when its easy to confused father with son, especially since they share the same name. The plot seems to take from early Cussler thrillers as well as Bond movies and others. Its a good story but not one of his best.

Headless Horseman falls upon hard times

A said day for the noggin absent horseman as he was spotted walking through Moscow earlier this morning. Apparently reduced to selling fake watches from his suitcase, eye witnesses had earlier seen him sell his horse for a bottle of vodka.
