Old Movie Review – Ocean's Eleven

Not the 1960 Frank Sinatra helmed classic but the 2001 remake featuring a host of headliners. Incase you missed the boat, the movie is about a heist in Las Vegas. A freshly released convict comes up with a way to steal millions from three casinos at the same time. The first part of the movie covers the putting together of the gang of criminals and the second, with the heist itself.

This is a very good looking movie, stars aside, everything looks good. Everyone dresses stylishly and yet individually, in part making up for the ‘tourist’ look of Las Vegas as compared to the Sin City in the original movie. Some clever camera angles and transitions make the movie feel hip.

The music sets just the right mood. The original soundtrack makes the movie feel as classy as it looks and the use of many well known, yet not so modern songs, allows Ocean’s Eleven to capture some of the feel of the original.

With an all star cast, the movie is always enjoyable to watch. Pitt & Clooney are perfect as two friends who don’t even have to talk to get the message across. Don Cheedle, who for some reason isn’t even credited in the movie, pulls off a great cockney accent which reminds me of Mos Def in The Italian Job remake.

All in all a great fun movie, lots of cameos and silliness but very enjoyable to watch.
